Terms of Service

By accessing or using PowerUsage ("the Service", available at powerusage.app), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These terms apply to all visitors, anonymous users, and authenticated account holders.

PowerUsage provides:

• An electricity cost calculator for estimating device power costs by region
• A community catalog of device wattage specifications
• A device tracking dashboard for authenticated users
• Time-of-use rate analysis and load-shifting recommendations

The anonymous calculator is free and requires no account. Authenticated features (device tracking, dashboard) require a free account.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time with reasonable notice where practicable.

To create an account you must provide a valid email address and choose a password. You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the security of your credentials
• All activity that occurs under your account
• Notifying us promptly of any unauthorized access

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Accounts are non-transferable.

We do not offer paid plans in v1. There is no credit card required to sign up.

You agree not to:

• Scrape, crawl, or bulk-request the API at rates that degrade service for other users
• Submit false, misleading, or fabricated device specifications to the catalog
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, bypass, or attack the Service infrastructure
• Use the Service to train machine learning models without explicit written permission
• Impersonate other users, administrators, or PowerUsage staff
• Use automated tools to create accounts in bulk

Violations may result in immediate account termination and, where applicable, referral to appropriate authorities.

PowerUsage calculations are estimates only. They are based on:

• Typical or user-supplied device wattage — not real-time metered consumption
• Regional electricity rate data that may be outdated or simplified
• Simplified TOU schedules that may not reflect your exact utility tariff

Do not use PowerUsage calculations as a substitute for your actual utility bill, professional energy audits, or financial decisions. Actual costs will vary based on your utility, meter, and real usage patterns.

When you submit a device to the catalog, you grant PowerUsage a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, modify, and incorporate that submission into the catalog for the benefit of all users.

You represent that submitted specifications are accurate to the best of your knowledge and do not infringe on any third-party intellectual property rights.

We reserve the right to reject, edit, or remove any submission that is inaccurate, spam, or otherwise inappropriate at our sole discretion.

Some catalog entries contain affiliate links. When you click these and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. All affiliate links are clearly disclosed per FTC requirements.

Affiliate relationships do not influence catalog accuracy, device rankings, or calculation results.

Programmatic access to the PowerUsage API (including future API key–based access) is subject to rate limits published in our documentation. Limits exist to ensure fair access for all users.

API keys are personal credentials. You may not share, sell, or redistribute API keys. Keys found to be abused will be revoked without notice.

We reserve the right to introduce, modify, or remove API endpoints at any time. We will provide reasonable notice for breaking changes.

The PowerUsage name, logo, UI design, and original written content are owned by PowerUsage and may not be reproduced without permission.

Electricity rate data is sourced from public utility filings and open datasets. Device wattage data in the catalog is community-contributed and considered factual (not copyrightable).

The calculation engine source code may be open sourced in the future. If released, the applicable open source license will govern its use.

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. Account deletion permanently removes your email, tracked devices, and associated data.

We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these terms, extended inactivity, or at our discretion, with notice where reasonable.

Termination does not affect device submissions already accepted into the public catalog, as these are community contributions with no personal data attached.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that electricity rate data will be current or accurate for your specific utility provider.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, POWERUSAGE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO FINANCIAL DECISIONS MADE BASED ON CALCULATOR ESTIMATES.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM (WHICH MAY BE ZERO IF YOU USE THE FREE TIER).

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be indicated by a revised "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you disagree with updated Terms, stop using the Service and delete your account.
