Privacy Policy

You can use the PowerUsage calculator without creating an account or logging in. When you use the site as an anonymous visitor:

• All calculations happen inside your browser using locally cached rate data.
• No wattage inputs, device names, or calculation results are sent to our servers.
• No session identifiers, fingerprints, or usage telemetry are transmitted in the background.
• The only network requests made are to fetch rate/region data on first load, and to your own browser cache after that.

Submitting a device via the submission form does send data to our servers (your submitted device information only). This is an explicit, user-initiated action — not background telemetry.

Clicking an affiliate link logs a click event. See Affiliate Links below for what is recorded.

When you create an account and log in, you unlock device tracking and the household dashboard. Creating an account requires:

• An email address
• A password (hashed — we never store plaintext passwords)

Once authenticated, the following data is stored on our servers and associated with your account:

We do not share this data with any third parties for advertising, analytics, or marketing purposes.

Across all users, the only server-side data collection is:

• Rate/region data requests — your browser fetches electricity rate data for your selected region. Standard web server access logs may capture the request timestamp and region code. No user identity is attached.
• Device submissions — if you submit a device to the catalog, we store the submitted device specifications you provide. No account is required to submit.
• Affiliate click events — device ID, product link, timestamp, and optionally your user ID if logged in. No IP address.
• Account data — for authenticated users only, as described above.

We do not collect, store, or transmit the following:

• ✕IP addresses (not stored in any application table)
• ✕Device fingerprints or browser fingerprints
• ✕Usage analytics, pageview tracking, or session recordings
• ✕Advertising identifiers
• ✕Location data beyond the region you manually select
• ✕Calculator inputs or results for anonymous users
• ✕Third-party tracking pixels or behavioral data

PowerUsage uses your browser's localStorage to persist:

• Your most recently selected region
• Cached electricity rate data (to reduce repeat network requests)

This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time via your browser's storage settings.

We do not use cookies for tracking, advertising, or session persistence beyond what is strictly required for authenticated sessions (a JWT stored inlocalStorageif you log in).

Some device catalog entries include affiliate links to products on third-party retailers. When you click an affiliate link:

• We log the device ID, the product link, and a timestamp
• If you are logged in, your user ID is included in the log
• No IP address is stored
• The retailer's own tracking applies once you leave our site

All pages displaying affiliate links include a disclosure as required by FTC guidelines. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you.

PowerUsage does not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Segment, Mixpanel, or any similar third-party analytics or advertising service.

The only third-party network requests made by this site are:

• Google Fonts (Inter, DM Sans) — loaded at page render. Standard Google CDN privacy policy applies.
• Affiliate retailer destinations — only when you click an affiliate link.

Account data (email, devices) is retained for as long as your account is active.

Device submission records are retained indefinitely as part of the community catalog, as they do not contain personal information.

Affiliate click logs are retained for up to 24 months for commission reconciliation, then purged.

To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the address below. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.

You have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Export your device list at any time via the dashboard
